Heron Net by the m² (Custom-Made)

We bought the net to protect us from herons after they had drastically reduced our fish population several times.
Our pond is kidney-shaped. We ordered a rectangular net measuring 650 x 350 cm. To assemble it, we first created a border with a few rods and polyethylene rope from the same manufacturer (see photos). The net was then simply laid over it, stretched and then attached to the border rope with cable ties about 25 cm above the water level. The overhang simply lies on the ground. If you lift it up, you can even get a landing net into the pond to scoop out leaves etc.
It took a while to make the net according to our specifications, but it arrived after a good 2 weeks. In terms of quality, everything makes a very solid and durable impression. The mesh is firm and does not stretch, so the net always remains tight and taut. We can recommend buying it. Die Anfertigung des Netzes nach unseren Maßvorgaben dauerte zwar etwas, aber nach gut 2 Wochen war die Lieferung da. Qualitativ macht alles einen sehr soliden und haltbaren Eindruck. Die Maschen sind fest und dehnen sich nicht, so dass das Netz immer stramm und gespannt bleibt. Wir können den Kauf empfehlen. Die Fischreiher haben nun keine Cahnce mehr."

Up until now we only had to deal with cats getting fish out of our pond. We then put up a 38 cm high border and the cats could only look in from the outside.
One evening in May I saw a heron climbing out of the pond. We have lots of grass, cattails and water lilies. I thought about it and googled it. Then I came across this heron protection net, which I also hoped would let dragonflies through. It is now a temporary aviary, a detailed and aesthetic kit is in the works and will be set up for the next growing season. Before I bought it, I contacted this manufacturer: they replied in writing by email that a 10x10cm mesh size of the protective net would provide sufficient PROTECTION and the heron would fly away without a sound. Unfortunately, my herons here in town are smarter and use the mesh size mentioned above. Young koi fly away with the heron. I think a smaller version would be safer. Now I have a permanent heron problem. Since I'm retired, I sit by my very large pond of 8x7 m and scare away my worst ENEMY from the pond. Thank you for the help from the manufacturer at the time. We stretched the protective net over our (mini) pond in May.
It looks stable and transparent.
Despite a plastic heron, lots of pond plants and other various methods to protect our pond fish, herons have always been lurking at the edge of the pond.
Since the net has been in place, no more herons have landed in our garden.
The neighboring gardens with ponds and no net are now visited even more often by herons.
And the nice thing is that we and our guests hardly notice the large-mesh black net - it doesn't spoil the field of vision.

We have four chickens. I bought a "fishing net" for the outdoor enclosure to protect it from attacks by birds of prey. Suggestion for improvement, because I was once again caught out by the dimensions. The net is supposed to be taut, so it would be interesting to know before buying how much it stretches over a length of 1m. In my case, the nets don't have to keep herons out, but cats and chickens out of my raised beds. The thin heron nets are ideal for this; you only need a couple of support poles. There is almost no shade, watering is not affected and the wind load is also kept within limits. The large mesh size means you can easily weed or reach through for smaller crops (e.g. radishes) without having to lift the net. I needed it as a heron protection net because the heron has visited me a few times and eaten some of my goldfish in the pond. The net is super easy to put up and is very tear-resistant. It has also protected my fish very well during a recent visit from the heron, as you can see in the pictures. I think it's very nice because it's black, barely visible and doesn't have any big knots. To protect my pond fish and frogs, I was looking for a net that was inconspicuous (black) and had a large mesh and that would fit perfectly on my small pond. I needed a new heron net and didn't want to use a large, half-floating net with small meshes.
I have now covered the banks with 80cm wide nets and am very happy with the quality of the nets supplied and with the look.
